London Legal Support Trust
BLS staff, trustees and friends took part again this year in the London Legal Support Trust walk which covers 10K of central London, starting at the Royal Courts of Justice and ending at the Law Society. Our walkers raised sponsorship for their efforts which was boosted by Gift Aid and matched by the Trust itself, adding a very welcome £2500 to BLS' coffers which will go towards paying volunteers' travel and other expenses. Many thanks to all who took part and those who sponsored them.
Housing Department expands!
The award of a grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has enabled BLS to hire another solicitor and an administrator to join Lia Dover in its housing department.
Sarah Bourn has been a volunteer at BLS since 2008 while also teaching Law at a local college. She has now joined the staff at BLS on a part-time basis. Julian Becker is a law post-graduate who has also volunteered at BLS since 2009 and has now taken on the role of part-time administrator in this busy department.
Employment Law department increases too!
A grant from Trust for London (formerly the City Parochial Foundation) has enabled BLS to employ another solicitor (part-time). Helen Usborne joined BLS in July of this year to work on Employment Law cases, particularly for migrant workers who face discrimination at work
